I have been growing flowers for bouquets for Bloomingfoods for 18 years. It all started when I was asked to help pick flowers for my two friends, Karen and Teresa, who have a floral wedding business called Artful Blooms. They did bouquets at Farmers’ Market for years, and I helped them pick the flowers and put bouquets together.
That got me hooked on flowers. When my friends left Market to do weddings full-time, I began doing Farmers’ Market, as well as selling to Bloomingfoods on member days each Friday.
I live on a small farm in eastern Monroe County, with 100 percent sunshine. I have a large garden that takes up most of my front yard. I grow flowers that I feel are vibrant and colorful and come back each week after being cut. I grow zinnias in red, yellow, orange, and purple, five types of cockscombs in orange and burgundy, teddy bear sunflowers, and a lot of tall, blue ageratum. I always grow sweet-Annie as a Fall filler for the bouquets.
In 2012 I stopped doing Market and now concentrate on selling bouquets to Bloomingfoods East and West, and I do flowers for weddings. Brides tend to choose me to do their flowers if they want a “country look” that is not too formal.
Besides growing flowers, I also love to paint them. I graduated from John Herron School of Art in 1981 and have belonged to two art galleries over the years: Gallery North on the Square and Hoosier Artist Gallery. My paintings are on display at Hoosier Artist (45 S. Jefferson St.) in Nashville, Indiana. I paint flowers, landscapes of Lake Monroe, and animals such as horses and roosters.
I would be happy to provide flowers to anyone who might be having a party or special event. If you have seen my flowers at Bloomingfoods and would like to make an order, feel free to call at 812-361-1071.
