Works by Kathleen Barton

Nature is the inspiration and the starting place of most of Kathleen Barton's work. Nature is worked into landscapes and architectural works as well as paintings in a garden. Barton captures a special spirit of place in her paintings of Central and Southern Indiana where she paints outdoors, on location with the Upland Plein Air Group and the Bloomington Watercolor Society. She has been a member of BWS for almost 15 years and the Upland group for 7 years. Barton sketches and applies the background colors on location. In addition, she photographs her subject matter near the beginning and at the end of the painting session to preserve lighting and colors. These photographs are used as reference material during the creation of a painting for technical reference as she brings them to life, and detail work is added in the studio. Her love of art, travel and nature all contribute to the creation of each work of art.
