Lake Monroe Water Fund is our April positive change recipient!

Stop by our Near West store to chat with them and learn more about their mission!

Lake Monroe provides abundant, secure drinking water to Bloomington residents. It is also an important regional resource for recreation,  mental health, tourism, wildlife, and the economy.  Striving to keep our water supply clean and our recreational amenities usable, the Lake Monroe Water Fund was formed in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy as part of its global water fund movement. A water fund is an innovative way for downstream water users to invest in conservation activities upstream that protect and restore the water source.

The Lake Monroe Water Fund invests in conservation activities in Monroe, Brown, and Jackson Counties on land that drains into the lake (the watershed). Their goal is to improve water quality by reducing erosion, sediment load, and 'nutrients' like nitrogen and phosphorus. The Water Fund plans to use Positive Change proceeds to leverage grant dollars for a trail stabilization project that will reduce sediment flowing into waterways upstream of Lake Monroe.
