Patsy Rahn finds the magic in the mundane. In The Alchemy Series she takes photographs of everyday objects and using the basic editing tools on her Samsung Galaxy, manipulates them to create entirely new images. Through this alchemical journey, the everyday photograph is used as basic material to create “the other.” The image emerges from the old into the new like a sculpture emerging from a block of stone, revealing the inner imagination of the sculptor.

Patsy Rahn is a poet and photographer. Her poems and prose are published in various journals and anthologies, and her book The Grainy Wet Soul is available from online bookstores. You can find her readings on her author website, the NPR radio show Poets Weave, and on YouTube.  Patsy began taking photographs in the late sixties when a friend gave her a Pentax camera. She now uses the camera on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Her current focus is on nature, sky, and abstract images.  Two of her photographs are part of the local artist permanent collection at the Monroe County Convention Center.
