Farm to Family Fund was established to address food insecurity through supporting a local, living food system. The all-volunteer organization purchases unsold produce at the end of Bloomington farmers' markets at a discounted price. Farmers are thus paid for produce that might otherwise be wasted. The food is then donated to local agencies that serve underserved communities within the larger Bloomington community. Farm to Family also matches SNAP benefits at the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective and the Bloomington Winter Farmers' Market. In 2024, the organization matched over $25,000 of SNAP benefits and donated $206,000 worth of fresh, local food to their partner agencies. Farm to Family has been working to raise $35,000 to meet a challenge grant that matches those funds 2-to-1. If they meet their goal, they will have a total of $105,000 to provide more access to fresh, local food for our community. Rounding up in February may put them over the goal.
