I LOVE the co-op and I would love to do anything that I can to help ensure its longevity. Bloomingfoods is the heart of our town’s sustainability, access to healthy foods, and community connection.

If more than 2 consecutive days go by where I do not “experience” Bloomingfoods, then either I’m out of town or injured! In general, I have always appreciated grocery co-ops. Whenever I travel, I will often look for a place to stay within walking distance to the city’s co-op.

Every job I have ever had has involved working cooperatively with a small group of people. I currently co-own the Orbit Room with my partner, work part-time at the Bloomington Farm Stop, and serve on the board of the Bloomington Community Orchard. I also managed an Herbal First Aid Wellness Den for a women’s primitive skills gathering in Oregon; with a consistent, small group of women.

Throughout my life, I have continued to maintain a commitment to living sustainably, gardening, and healthy eating. I own a small business called “The Indiana Herbal Center” where I teach herbal medicine classes and see clients. I have been teaching/maintaining a clinical herbal practise for the last 15 years.

As someone who is very into sustainable living, community-building, and healthy eating, I feel as though my values align very well with the values and mission of BCS.

I feel it is very important to support local businesses, such as Bloomingfoods because they help create our town’s identity/personality. Bloomingfoods is one of those places that make people want to LIVE here, long term.

I think one challenge is staying affordable to as many people as possible. I also think another challenge could exist in wanting to support a local vendor or farmer BUT realizing that they may not be producing their product in the most sustainable manner.
