Artist Statement
“Many people know me by shrieking ‘Oh Joy,’ ‘Oh World,’ and ‘Oh Life.’ This round is ‘Oh Fish.’
‘One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.’ My childhood friend, Dr. Suess. This series all came about while thrifting. I found a vintage fish book, purchased it for $2 mind you, and brought it home, then into a Xerox machine and onto my drawing table where I began to color. The pictures were in black & white. The colors may not be scientifically correct, though in my mind art has no rules, but creativity, respect, consideration, and dignity. I like the crudeness of the aged paper I xeroxed from an old book 40 years aged so now the copies are twice as old as I. Almost.
I invite you to dive into my ocean friends and swim with the mysterious, beautifully monstrous deep sea creatures with mystery out of this world, or more so, in the depths of the water world.
I am presenting these pieces in this manner to allow me to show & sell at a very reasonable price and the buyer can choose the framework that most suits their taste and environment. In my eyes, all my work is priceless, I can’t put a number on it. Make me an offer; I work on a sliding scale. I would rather have someone enjoy it than have it in my treasure chest never to be seen, for that would be a loss. If you have already been a Gallery B artist, you are welcome to reapply after two years. We review submissions quarterly and will respond accordingly.
