FDA & CDC Voluntary Recall of Grimmway Farms Organic Whole & Baby Carrots

FDA and CDC have announced an outbreak investigation of E. coli O121:H19 in organic whole and baby carrots.

As of November 17, 2024, 39 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli have been reported from 18 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from September 6, 2024, to October 28, 2024. Of 38 people with information available, 15 have been hospitalized and none developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can cause kidney failure. One death has been reported from California.

Grimmway Farms initiated a voluntary recall of multiple sizes and brands of bagged organic whole and baby carrots.

Organic whole carrots were available for purchase at retail from August 14 through October 23, 2024 (365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O Organic, President’s Choice, Simple Truth, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Wholesome Pantry).

Organic baby carrots include specific best-if-used-by dates printed on the bags ranging from September 11 to November 12, 2024 (365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Grimmway Farms, Kroger, LIDL, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O Organic, President’s Choice, Raley’s, Simple Truth, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Wholesome Pantry).

FOR BABY CARROTS: The expiration dates included in the recall are between 9/11/24 and 11/12/24. The baby carrots we currently have in stock were received after these dates.

FOR WHOLE CARROTS: The carrots would have been for sale between 8/14/24 and 10/23. The whole carrots we currently have in stock were received after these dates.

The recalled items were not used in our house-made products, deli, salad bar, or hot bar.

If you purchased the recalled items from one of our stores within the expiration/sell by dates listed above and still have them in your refrigerator, we urge you to throw them away. If you would like a refund or replacement, please request this at Customer Service.
